Definition of Tawheed
Tawheed means believing in the oneness of Allah in His being, attributes, and worship.
Importance of Tawheed in the Quran
Allah says,
"And your God is One God. There is no deity except Him, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate." (Al-Baqarah 163)
Types of Tawheed
1. Tawheed al-Rububiyyah (Oneness in Lordship)
Allah alone is the Creator, Owner, and Controller of everything.
The Quran states,
"Say, 'Who provides for you from the heavens and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight? And who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living? And who arranges every matter?' They will say, 'Allah.'" (Yunus 31)
2. Tawheed al-Asma wa al-Sifat (Oneness in Names and Attributes)
Allah’s names and attributes are unique and incomparable.
He says,
"There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing." (Ash-Shura 11)
3. Tawheed al-Ibadah (Oneness in Worship)
Worship is only for Allah, and no one else should be invoked or sought for help.
Allah commands,
"And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him." (Al-Isra 23)
Condemnation of Shirk
Shirk is the gravest sin and is unforgivable if one dies without repentance.
Allah warns,
"Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills." (An-Nisa 48)
Importance of Tawheed in Hadith
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,
"Whoever dies while believing in 'La ilaha illallah' will enter Paradise." (Sahih Muslim 93)
How to Strengthen Tawheed
Recite and reflect on the Quran
Follow the Sunnah of the Prophet
Avoid innovations and acts of shirk
Rely only on Allah and seek help from Him alone
Conclusion:
Tawheed is the foundation of Islam and the key to success in this life and the Hereafter. Every Muslim must understand and uphold the oneness of Allah while avoiding all forms of shirk.
